Template is empty because of a server error

A template in Silverfin shows the following error:

“Something went wrong. We couldn’t display this template due to a server error.”

I have no idea what is causing it. The exact same template works fine in another file.

In the affected file, all workflows and templates are activated. The template has no auto-hide formula. It contains cross-references to other templates, but those templates are also activated. Nothing is locked.

The only message we see is the server error. How can we resolve this?

Kind regards,
Martijn

Hi Martijn (@MDomburg)!

Great that you flagged this! However, issues like this should be forwarded to our Support team so they can take a closer look and deep-dive into the template causing the error. If you experience any system performance issues, please feel free to contact us at support@silverfin.com.

Kind regards,

Delphine

Hi Delphine,

We started by opening a ticket with Support.

The response there was:
“This concerns a custom template. For that reason, we refer you to the Community. There, enthusiastic users can ask our developers questions directly about the Silverfin programming language, and they can help you resolve any questions or issues.”

That’s why I went ahead and started a topic. I agree with your response. Thanks for that. I have reopened the ticket with Support.

Kind regards,
Martijn

An engineer has looked into the problem. It turned out that there was a reference in the code to a field that had been changed elsewhere. So a server error means that an incorrect reference has been programmed somewhere. If I had been given that hint, I could probably have solved it myself. Server error is, of course, a vague concept.
